The core of its range lies on the Zimbabwe plateau and surrounding escarpments. Isolated populations occur in suitable rocky habitats in eastern Botswana.
Altitude and depth
Found from near sea level along the Mozambique coastal lowlands to approximately 2,000 m on the central African plateau and escarpments. Most abundant at mid-elevations between 900 and 1,500 m, where rocky outcrops are prevalent.
Seasonal movements
