Chip in to put more wildlife on the map

Animal World Map lists all 6,036 mammals the IUCN Red List has assessed, 1,364 of them threatened — but only 925 have a full profile written so far. The map is free, it has no ads, and it is carried by one person.

A donation, whatever its size, goes into the work that closes that gap, and into the running costs that keep the map free for everyone else. Pick an amount, pay once, and you are done — no form, no account.

Where your donation goes

No overhead, no salaries, no office. Four things, in this order:

Research and fact-checking

Every profile is assembled from IUCN Red List assessments and observation data, then written up: habitat, diet, behaviour, threats and the conservation work under way. It is the slowest part of the project, and the part your support speeds up most directly.

Range maps on the globe

Showing where a species actually lives means processing distribution data into map layers the globe can draw. Storing and serving those layers — plus the map tiles behind them — is billed by usage, every month.

The AI wildlife guide

Each question answered by the guide, and each narrated story, is a call to a language or a voice model that we pay for. Free credits on sign-up are what let anyone try it without a card, and they are paid for out of the project's own pocket.

Hosting and storage

The servers, the database and the audio storage that keep the map fast and available. Unglamorous, unavoidable, and due at the end of every month whether or not anyone chips in.

How it works

  1. 1

    Pick an amount

$10, $50, $100, $200 — or type your own. Whatever you choose is exactly what the checkout shows.

  2. 2

    Pay in the secure window

Polar's checkout opens on top of this page. Enter your email and payment details, and confirm. Close it at any time before paying and nothing is charged.

  3. 3

    That's it

You land on a thank-you page and Polar emails your receipt. Nothing else follows: no account, no newsletter.

Donation or sponsorship?

Both fund the same work. What differs is what happens after you pay.

A donation

  • Any amount, from $1
  • One payment, right on this page
  • No form, no account, no follow-up

A sponsorship

  • A short form, confirmed with $1
  • We reply by email to shape your support
  • A thank-you credit, or a mention for companies

Questions donors ask

Is this a one-time payment?

Yes. A donation is charged once, for the amount you choose, and nothing renews. There is no account to create and no subscription to cancel.

How is the payment handled?

By Polar, our payment provider, which acts as the merchant of record. The checkout opens in a secure window on top of this page: your card details are entered there and never reach our servers.

Will I get a receipt?

Yes. Polar emails a receipt to the address you enter at checkout.

Why is the total a little higher than my donation?

Depending on where you live, sales tax or VAT may be added at checkout. As merchant of record, Polar collects it and pays it to the tax authorities where the law requires it.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

No. Animal World Map is an independent project, not a registered charity, so a donation is a voluntary contribution to its running costs rather than a gift you can deduct.

What is the difference with sponsoring?

A donation is a single payment and nothing more. Sponsorship starts a conversation: you tell us who you are, we reply by email, and it can lead to a thank-you credit or, for a company, a mention on the site. If that is what you are after, the sponsorship page explains how it works.
