Animal species catalog
This is every mammal species the IUCN Red List has assessed — 6,036 of them — listed alphabetically with its scientific name and its conservation category. The Red List is the reference the whole field works from: each entry is the result of a formal assessment of the animal's range, its population trend and the threats it faces, reviewed by specialists on that group.
This page runs from Aardvark to African Straw-coloured Fruit-bat. Its species break down as 30 Least Concern, 6 Data Deficient, 4 Vulnerable, 4 Near Threatened, 3 Endangered, 3 Critically Endangered. 10 of them currently carry a threatened category — Vulnerable, Endangered or Critically Endangered — out of the 6,036 mammals assessed worldwide.
Every one of them has a page here. 925 carry a full profile — habitat, distribution, diet, behaviour, threats and conservation work — and 4,248 are placed on the interactive map. The rest are listed from their Red List assessment while we research them: open one and you can ask for it to be written next, or support the work that gets it there.
